Takealot: Strengthening marketplace trust and transparency
Body

South Africa’s leading online marketplace is using Verified by GS1 to help ensure accurate product information and build customer confidence.
As South Africa’s top e-commerce platform, Takealot is committed to offering a seamless, trustworthy shopping experience. To support this goal, the company integrated Verified by GS1 within its Seller and Supplier Portals—leveraging GS1 GTINs to ensure product data is accurate, reliable and brand-authorised.

This integration allows sellers to validate their products’ GTINs before listing, promoting better data quality and accountability across the platform. For consumers, it means greater confidence in what they’re buying; for Takealot, it brings operational efficiency, fewer errors and faster listings.

While the GTIN verification is currently optional, Takealot plans to phase in mandatory use and expand validation to include GS1 product attributes—further reinforcing its commitment to transparency and product integrity.

By adopting GS1 standards, Takealot is enhancing its marketplace credibility and setting a strong example for trusted digital retail in Africa.
